How to choose swimming lesson?

No matter how good of swimmers we are, there’s always ways to improve. You can ask Phelps and he’ll agree. So getting swimming lessons is always a good idea. The problem you are then facing is what to look for when choosing the perfect swimming lessons. We’re looking into that today.

Skill level

Sometimes it is hard, to be honest with yourself when assessing your skill level. We tend to be too harsh or too nice to ourselves. This process is the first thing to do before choosing swimming lessons. If you are a complete beginner don’t try to go into the intermediate program. If you are an average swimmer don’t sign up for Olympics training regime. Perfecting basics and building your technique is the only way to success in the pool.

Why?

The answer to the question above defines what type of lessons will be the most effective to let you achieve the goal you have set for yourself. The goal should be hard enough to motivate you and achievable enough to keep you motivated! One of the things Swimmo Watch and App provide is a possibility to set and save a series of custom goals to let you measure your progress against them.

The importance of the coach

It is possible to learn swimming using videos on YouTube from some good and trustworthy sources but we recommend to have the support and advice of a real life coach for a couple of reasons. First is that people are different and need a different type of help as they will combat different weakness or mistakes. You’ll also respond best to a different type of motivation and goal setting process. The second thing is – you can’t see yourself swimming and what you imagine about your technique might be different from what coach will notice watching you during the workout. For those reasons, we advise getting some lessons with a coach.

See your future coach at work

Before you decide who’s gonna be your coach go and see him/her at work. what is his/her style? Is it enthusiastic, strict, is it a good fit for you? This might be a great way to choose someone with the right energy and attitude. This might be the difference between a great experience and activity you don’t enjoy.
